The process: pultrusion

The production of glass fiber reinforced plastic (GRP) profiles takes place by means of pultrusion. Pultrusion is an automated process in which a glass fiber with resin is pulled through a mould. The result is a fiberglass reinforced profile that is not only strong, but also lightweight and durable.

How does pultrusion work?

In pultrusion, materials such as fiberglass yarn and glass mats are drawn into an impregnation bath containing resin (such as polyester, polyurethane, vinyl ester and epoxy). Once the raw fiber has been impregnated with the liquid resin, it is drawn further into the forming and heating die. Here the final shape is created using a continuous drawing device. Finally, the profiles are pulled through a crosscut saw, which cuts them to the desired length.
